The creative process begins with an imagined landscape idea. A charcoal sketch is made capturing the initial thought and planning composition. Next, using watercolor and gouache paint, a small painting is made working on color balance and exploring the relationship between cool and warm tones. Lastly, the final painting is completed using delicate yet expressive brush strokes and alternating between both thin and thick paint application.
Medium: Watercolor and Gouache Process: Using various wet and dry brush techniques, watercolor and Gouache paint are applied to a thick paper board. Transparent layers of paint applied with varying degrees of thickness allow for a texture and contrast not typically seen with watercolors all the while keeping the inherent subtle qualities. Materials: 100% acid free archival, ph neutral hot press board mounted with a gel medium to a primed and sealed baltic birch panel. Paint:M. Graham watercolor paints and white Gouache made of the finest pigments. Made with pure honey (used extensively throughout the history of art as an ingredient in water based colors of all types) gum Arabic, glycerine and the most lightfast pigments available. Frame: Custom made hardwood frames made from Alder, Walnut, Mahogany or Poplar wood. Linen backed board and floated artwork or archival 8 ply matte board with anti reflective UVLS glass.
